Here are links to all the posts in this series about building a semi-automatic 9mm Uzi carbine from a parts kit so you can find them readily. I bought two original IMI wood stock Uzi kits from Robert RTG and then assembled the kit using a McKay receiver, McKay closed semi-auto, semi-auto disconnector from US Barrel Shrouds, 16″ barrel, Title II shroud, Picatinny railed cover from US Barrel Shrouds, and Vortex Venom red dot. The completed Uzi was finished with John Norrell’s Molyresin.
Part of what I enjoy when planning a build is to understand the historical context of a weapon. I did some digging on Youtube and turned up some decent videos that do just that.
I would recommend David Gaboury’s book – The Uzi Submachine Gun Examined – as it provides the history of the Uzi and has tons of photos, assembly instructions, parts diagrams and so forth. It doesn’t give everything you need to do a build but it sure does help.
Each post below outlines what I did as well as other reference sources that I used while learning how to do the build:
- Uzi Part 1 of 7: The Uzi Kit, Receiver and Barrel
- Uzi Part 2 of 7: Stripping the Parts Kit
- Uzi Part 3 of 7: Preparing and Permanently Attaching the Wood Stock
- Uzi Part 4 of 7: Preparing the Grip Frame For Semi-Auto Use
- Uzi Part 5 of 7: Converting the Top Cover for Semi-Auto Use
- Uzi Part 6 of 7: Applying the Molyresin Finish
- Uzi Part 7 of 7: The Bolt and Final Assembly of the Semi-Auto Uzi Carbine
- How to tune the Uzi top cover to fit properly and how to properly install the bolt blocking latch and striker/firing pin.
- Super Lube Multi-Purpose Grease is excellent for the McKay bolt assembly.
If you are new to the Uzi and want an operating manual, here is a great copy of the semi-auto IMI Uzi Model B Manual showing how to use and care for the weapon.
If you are curious what the Hebrew characters are on the grip frame, click here.
We thoroughly enjoyed this Uzi. If you’re thinking about building one, I sure recommend it.
Note, I have to buy all of my parts – nothing here was paid for by sponsors, etc. I do make a small amount if you click on an ad and buy something but that is it. You’re getting my real opinion on stuff.
